How to choose a guide book

Choosing a guide book is unique for everyone. One man’s bible is another man’s waste of money.

Guide books aren’t cheap and we all have useless purchases gathering dust on our bookshelves. Here are Corsica Guides' top five tips for choosing the right guide:

1. Where is the guide for? – Corsica is a large island. Guides that         concentrate on the whole area become necessarily short on detail.         You may be better suited to a couple of detailed guides.

     2. What do you want from the guide?- If you are going camping then            pages detailing four star hotels and lavish restaurants will be of little            use.

        3. Guidebook or souvenir? –How practical is the guide. Guides                 with lots  of glossy photos are great to whet the appetite before you             go and remind you of the trip in future years. However, these guide                 books aren’t always the best ones to carry around.

        4. How far will you walk? – no point in buying a guide full of 15 mile             mountain treks if the most you will manage is 3 or four miles around             the village.

        5. Guidebooks aren’t always right – stuff changes! Restaurants                    and hotels change hands, paths get diverted or built on.                                  Don’t become dependent on the guide – use your own judgement.
